Santa Clara County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)

Last month, the team, which is thought to be the longest running sexual assault care and forensic evidence collection program in California, celebrated 20 years of service. The SART nurses are also trained in handling forensic evidence and counseling victims, who are usually brought in as a result of a 911 call. The team, which handles about 30 cases a month, was developed by Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Emergency Department nurses and physicians in 1987.
