Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Chicago

Mila Rolle, nurse manager of two medical-surgical nursing units, and Elaina Schnoebelen, nurse manager and critical care educator, earned Master of Science degrees in Nursing with a focus on nursing education from Lewis University in Romeoville.


Lori Pacura, RN


Sinai Health System, Chicago

Lori Pacura was named vice president of patient care services/chief nursing officer for Sinai Health System in Chicago. Known as an advocate for nurses and as a cross-discipline collaborator, she has been a nurse for 30 years.



Joan Kram, RN

Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center, Glenview, Ill.

Joan Kram is the new director of hospice services.

Northwestern Memorial, Chicago

Paul Langlois is the new clinical practice consultant for the cardio-thoracic intensive care unit. Heidi Wheeler is the new clinical practice consultant for medicine. Cahren Cruz assumed the manger role for the medicine unit. Denise Anderson accepted the manager position for 13 east.

Marisa Streelman is the new manager of the general medicine unit. Ashley Perreau is the new manager for the urology unit. Alan Pietrowski is the new manager of the neuro spine ICU.

Wendy Rawls was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau at Governor's State University.

Ericka Bollinger and Araceli Tristan passed the Neonatal RNC exams. Zarine Damkevala, Mary Rachel Johnson, and Stephanie Plancich passed the med-surg exam.




Marisa Streelman, RN

RML Specialty Hospital, Hinsdale, Ill.

Pat Autman, Laurie Forssberg, Beth Garcia, Mauleen Maly, Paulette Ortiz, Bev Ponulak, Claudette Quinn, and Cecilia Yanez were graduates of the first sponsored Bachelor of Science Registered Nurse class of 2007.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL

The following RNs completed the registered nurse first assist program: Keo Aphay, Rudsen Calso, Rommell Ducasi, and Oliver Llames.

Rod Argenal, Debbie Walsh-Monforti, and Cindy Bielawski achieved certification in emergency nursing. Linda Stein was appointed manager of epidemiology and infection control. Jennifer Barnes was promoted to specialty coordinator for CV/PV/Thoracic and passed her CNOR certification. Patricia Francois was promoted to robotic coordinator and passed her CNOR certification. Anna Starostovic and Jill Buck are now trauma nurse specialists.

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Ill.

Kim Zupancic and Mary Garramone were promoted to Nurse Clinician III. Pam Krska was promoted to clinical operations assistant for inpatient behavioral health.

University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago

Timothy Carrigan, Maria Nehmer, Jill Kowalski, and Beth Elpayaa submitted the abstract "Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia in the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Units." The abstract was accepted and the group will present at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics Symposium in April.

John Tabbilos received CNRN certification. Barb Verdich received CGRN certification. Rose Arroyo was re-certified in pediatrics.

Pam Hurt received her MSN from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Wendy Jaffe received her MSN from Elmhurst College. Stella Savella received her MSN from University of Phoenix.


National-Louis University, Wheeling, Ill.

Linda Gibbons was elected to the National Association of School Nurses Board of Directors. Gibbons is an active member of the Illinois Association of School Nurses. Serving a four-year term, she will be able to influence the policies and decisions of NASN.

Swati Bavisi has become an advanced practice nurse at Comer's Pediatric Emergency Room.

Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago

The following nurses earned Trauma Nurse Core Certification: Dusty Brinson, Michaela Carden, Laurely Fusilero, Judith Gebraski, Sandra Grinvalds, Michelle Hoover, Nicole Leannais, Elizabeth Rogers, Debra Trinkl, Sandra Alicea, Rebecca Brown, Susan Harrison, Jennifer Lebbe, Kelly Lankin, Aya McCloud, April Moore, Eric Reing, Vilma Santos, Sharon Stasica, Katherine Szymanski, and Amanda Weirich.

The following nurses earned Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification: Christine Adler, Georgia Corona, Ellen Johnston, Jennifer Labbe, Brian Lutz, Carolyn Nowaczyk, Sharon Roberts, Karen Schmidt, Terri Shinnick, Sharon Stasica, Sarah Streder, and Katherine Szymanski.

The following nurses earned Pre-transport/Post-transport Stabilization Certification: Katherine Brennan, Joanna Hamilton, Jessica Larsen, Celeste McFarland, Susan Metzner, Jessica Offenbach, Lyndsey Powell, Carrie Prather, Nancy Roemer, and Stephanie Spacone.


Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital

The following RNs received certifications: Julia Hayes and Erbee Bruno, OCN; Tamara Ditter and Kathleen Karns, ACLS; Alison Boone, CCRN; Teodora Litton and Linda Sobanski, PCCN; and Lisa Cramsie, Denise Day, Dawn Hart, Narcy Bartik, Angie Sorice, and Kelly Griffin, ACLS.

The following RNs received promotions: Maria Miller, clinical operations assistant (nights); Kristine Friend, Kristin Kane, PSHU (days); Leonita Summers, PSHU (nights); and Sandra Clark, director, pediatric services.

Sandra Aardsma, coordinator of the cyberknife radiosurgery center, presented at an all-day Radiation Therapy course at the Oncology Nursing Society Institutes of Learning.

The following RNs presented at the fourth annual Evidence-Based Practice Conference: Annmarie Bach and Gail Tagney presented the paper "Comparison of Two Pain Scales in the Unresponsive Adult Patient"; Wendy Tuzik-Micek and Cheryl Lefaiver presented "Research Barriers: How to Identify, Overcome, and Create a Model Research Practice"; Michelle Nellett, Lisa Salinas-Sanchez, Michele Kristof, and Marie Morack presented the poster "OHHHH… What a Relief, Reducing the Prevalence of Pressure Ulcers in the ICU Setting"; and Deirdre Doyle and Jenefar Slusher presented the poster "Enhancing Quality Care through Autonomous Postpartum Screening."

Laura Waszak, Rosanna Welling, and Phyllis Lawlor-Klean presented the poster "Project Preemie: Successful Promotion of Proper Feeding Techniques For "Growing" Outcomes at the fourth annual Nursing Research Symposium.

The following RNs presented at the at the Eleventh National Magnet Conference: Wendy Tuzik-Micek and Darcie Brazel presented "Nursing and Allied Health Credentialing: How to Make it Happen Collaboratively"; Patti Ludwig-Beymer (Edward Hospital) and Wendy Tuzik-Micek presented "Building Culturally Competent Healthcare Organizations as Part of the Magnet Journey."

Kimberly Lucas is the new co-chair for the professional clinical practice council. Judith DiFilippo received the Pinnacle Leadership Award at the 10th Annual Power of Nursing Leadership Event.

Vakisha Rachel received her BSN from Millikin University and passed her state boards.

Amanda Lopez and Eileen Golden received MVP nominations.


Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Ill.

Mary Kay Larson was elected North Central chapter coordinator-elect of the American Nephrology Nurses' Association for 2008-09. Larson will coordinate and supervise regional chapter activities, report to the regional vice president, and serve as a member on appropriate committees.
