Hyeon Choi, RN
Adventist Hinsdale (Ill.) Hospital

Hyeon Choi was named the facility's Nurse of the Year during National Nurse's Week. Choi is a member of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses.

Sharon Ami, Bette Giordani, Cathy Liker, Lullibeth Montejo, Alice Mosur-Martinez, and Shirley Sharkey received Florence Nightingale Awards, which recognize RNs who consistently work to make a difference in patient care.

Elizabeth Cadiz received the Ellen O'Mara Nursing Mentorship Award. Antonio Melgoza, Diana Pedines, and Katie Smith received New Graduate Alumni Awards. Taiwo Akinboboye received the Ila Boikan Nursing Scholarship Award.

Elona Lundstrom received the Kate Flaherty Nursing Leadership Award, which recognizes a nurse leader who provides exceptional leadership for nursing/patient care services in the hospital or other healthcare setting.

Evanston (Ill.) Northwestern Healthcare

Christine Lawlor passed her CCRN exam. Cheryl Capek, Lori Ford, and Renee Fasanella hosted an organ donation table in April to recognize Organ Donation Awareness Month. Barbara Ray traveled to Peru to work with cardiostart to educate nurses.

Advocate Healthcare Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Ill.

Vicki Bruce became a cardiac surgical certified nurse and was the first of the critical care open heart surgery nurses to pass this exam. Chime Ajier graduated with a BSN in nursing from the University of St. Francis and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Uplison Delta Chapter.

Louis Fogg, assistant professor, received the 2007 Nephrology Nursing Journal Research Award for co-authoring the article "The Relationships Between Nurses' Perceptions of the Hemodialysis Unit Work Environment and Nurse Turnover, Patient Satisfaction, and Hospitalizations," which was published in the May/June 2007 issue of Nephrology Nursing Journal.

JoElla Hynes received a geriatric certification for non-physician providers. Heidi Olson recertified as a certified gastroenterology registered nurse. Lisa Wolstenhom, Jamie Hill, Therese Murphy, Michelle Gulik, Julie Mills, and Lissy Kolath were certified as critical care registered nurses.

Michelle "Mikki" Grit provided volunteer health care for the 2008 Face of America Bike Tour. Mary Vercellino was certified as a wound care nurse and ostomy care nurse. Lonnie Polhemus graduated from Benedictine University with a BSN with honors.

Deb Watters recertified as an oncology certified nurse.

Beth Dobby received the third annual Dr. Tom Williams Award for Leadership.

Amy Burgess received the third annual Dr. Tom Williams Peer Award for Clinical Excellence.

Mary Kay Larson, MSN, APRN-BC, CNN, was named North Central Chapters coordinator-elect for the American Nephrology Nurses' Association.
