The National Institutes of Health have awarded Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science a $15 million endowment for research designed to benefit underserved communities, the Los Angeles university announced Oct. 6.

The National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities is giving the grant to the university's Medical Sciences Institute to expand research capacity and infrastructure, specifically to conduct further translational approaches on health inequities.

The funds will also support the university's College of Science and Health, particularly the new Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing, as well as the university's planned four-year medical school and Center for Community Engagement.
