Hip Fractures A Concern For Heart Failure Patients

Heart failure patients age 65 and older are six times more likely than other cardiovascular patients to suffer a hip fracture, according to a Canadian study.

Researchers from the University of Alberta say increased attention should be paid to the screening for, and treatment of, osteoporosis to reduce fracture risk in patients with heart failure.

The study, which included 2,041 patients with a first diagnosis of heart failure and 14,253 patients with other cardiovascular diseases, was published online in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
