How Do I Find A Good Nclex Prep Course?

Question:

Dear Donna,

I am a senior nursing school student who will graduate in May. I have a question about preparing for the NCLEX. I took a class last spring and really didn’t like it. I don’t learn by memorizing acronyms. Is there another NCLEX prep class that is good? I think I’d do well with online classes since I tend to remember what I’ve read and looked up more than what I hear in a lecture.

Ann

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Ann,

Ask your instructors for some recommendations. There should also be test prep books in your school library and possibly even your public library. And while review is not a bad thing, don’t get caught in the trap of over preparing. Your best preparation for taking the NCLEX is completing your nursing program. Studies show that the sooner you take the test after graduation the better your chances of passing. Some new grads delay taking the test for a variety of reasons; that is not a good strategy.

My best wishes,
Donna
