Daily News: Heart Attack Care Gender Gap Deadly
A new study published in the journal Circulation shows women hospitalized with heart attacks don't get needed treatments and are more likely to die than men.
Researchers from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston said that of more than 78,000 heart attack victims studied, 10% of women who suffered massive heart attacks died in the hospital. Only 6% of men died.
Researchers also said women were less likely to receive recommended medicines, such as aspirin, within 24 hours, and did not get treatment to restore blood flow or receive the treatment quickly enough.
