B Vitamins Could Lower Macular Degeneration Risk
Daily B vitamin supplements could lower women’s odds of age-related macular degeneration, according to a report in the Archives of Internal Medicine. In a study of 5,200 women with cardiovascular disease or at high risk for it, women taking B vitamins were 41% less likely to develop macular degeneration during a seven-year follow-up. Body mass index, alcohol use, and smoking did not appear to modify the B vitamin supplements’ benefit.
