States Earn D Grades In Mental Health Report Card

Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina all earned D grades in a national report card prepared by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The states were graded in four categories including Health Promotion and Measurement, Consumer & Family Empowerment, and Community Integration and Social Inclusion. Financing & Core Treatment/Recovery Services was weighted as 45% of the grade.

NAMI gave the U.S. as a whole a D grade in the report, titled “Grading the States 2009: A Report on America’s Health Care System for Adults with Serious Mental Illness.”

Georgia earned C grades in three of the four categories, while North Carolina and South Carolina earned two Cs. For information, visit www.NAMI.org.
