Imnas Bathan received the Clinical Excellence Award for licensed practical nursing; Saphie Kargbo completed her BSN from Rutgers University; Nicole Martinez completed her RN program from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing; Monique Dukes and Deana Platis received their bachelor's degrees in biology from Rutgers University; Andy Kraft received the Clinical Excellence Award for Medical/Surgical Nursing; Lori Mulligan was appointed as the nursing director of 4 Tower; Ruth Kotlarchick received the "Caught in the Act of Caring" Award; Tracey Malast received her MSN from UMDNJ; Billie Bellamy-Brown and Grace Ibe were guest speakers at the US-China Nursing Cooperation Forum sponsored by Applied Info China (AIC) on March 21, 2003; Theresea Goldstein has passed her certified emergency nursing exam, and along with Catie Bonnello, has met the requirements for clinical nurse III in ED; Taryn Webber received her BSN from Kean University; Lisa Falcon received the Nurse Excellence Award for Critical Care Nursing. The following nurses presented lectures for Perioperative Nursing Course 101 offered for spring 2003 - Louise Gurgui - "Introduction to Perioperative Nursing, Perioperative Assessment"; Deborah Rednour - "Sterilization and Disinfection"; Maureen McSweeney - "Safety in the OR"; DaurieAnn McBrair - "The Scrubbing & Circulating Nurse Role, RNFA Role, Patient Education, and Tourniquets and Implants"; Grace Thomas - Anesthesia, Malignant Hyperthermia, Drugs and Solutions, and Blood Transfusions"; Lydia Webber - "Sponges and Scrubbing, Gowning, Gloving"; Susan Gonzales - "Aseptic Technique, Wound Healing/Hemostasis, and Skin Preparation"; Dorothy Grogan - "Needles, Sutures, & Staples"; Geraldine Helondovitch - Surgical Instruments"; Rosalinda Cruz - "Surgical Draping"; Anna Holton - "Electrosurgery"; Donna Yetman - "Surgical Specimen"; Gail Morlend - "Laser Safety"; Annie Schwendeman - "Endo-scopic Surgery, Patient Positioning"; Myrna Young - "Latex Allergy, Surgical Environment, Professionalism, Ethical Dilemma." Anna Holton received the Clinical Excellence Award for Perioperative Nursing; Myrna Young, DaurieAnn McBrair, and Annie Schwendeman presented a mock OR on "Take Your Child to Work Day." Gloria Dela Cruz received her Trauma Nursing Course Certification. Teresa Damito received the Clinical Excellence Award for Perinatal Nursing.
Debbie Stuart passed the Certification Exam in Emergency Nursing. Sharon Strickland received certification in Case Management. Carla Boyle has been promoted to head nurse, Perinatal Services. Marianne Balay presented "What Women Want: A Gender-based Approach to Patient Satisfaction" at the 6th Annual Meeting of Spirit of Women Foundation in May in Baltimore, and at the nurse executive luncheon for the Women's Heart Foundation in June. Cristina Sarmiento received certification in Medical-Surgical and was appointed to 4 Tower head nurse. Marline Spencer received her BSN degree from Rutgers University College of Nursing. Cindy Zhang received her CNII on the hospital's Professional Advancement System. Terri Veneziano was appointed director for Surgical Critical Care West & Core.

Donna Marie Callaghan, assistant professor, is the recipient of the Institute for Nursing's 2003 Research Award for her research entitled: "The Relationship Among Health-Promoting Self-Care, Self-Efficacy, and Self-Care Agency in an Adolescent Population."

Linda Cuoco, chief nurse executive and vice president of patient care services, was published in the June edition of Nurse Leader. Her article is entitled "Empowered Infrastructure for Everyday Heroes."

Karen T. LaMonica has been appointed administrator of the VNSW affiliate, Westchester Care at Home, a licensed home healthcare agency serving residents of Westchester and the Bronx.
William Paterson University of NJ, Wayne, NJ
Janet Tracy received the "NJ Nursing Student's Faculty Award." This is a new award initiated by the State Student Nurse Organization in NJ. Kathleen Scura was one of the honored luncheon guests at the state conference in Atlantic City in April 2003. She received the "NJ Excellence as a Nurse Practitioner Award" from the NJ State Nursing Association. This is an honor bestowed by the State Forum of Nurses in Advanced Practice.
