Question:
Dear Donna,
I have completed my LPN program and am waiting to take my boards. I am searching for an IV therapy course to take. Do you have any suggestions as to where I should look, and how I can tell if a program is recognized in my state?

Dear Donna replies:
Dear Wants to be Certified,
IV certification courses outside of a hospital (where they usually are just for employees) are getting harder and harder to find. You don't mention where you live, but I am happy to tell you that Nurse.com is offering a course in New Jersey (near New York City and Philadelphia). Find out more at http://nursing-ce-iv-nov12-2012-nj.eventbrite.com.
If you are not in that area and cannot travel, contact your statechapter of the American Nurses Association (www.nursingworld.org), whether or not you’re a member or your local chapter of the Infusion Nurses Society(www.ins1.org) to inquire about courses.
To find out whether a program is recognized in your state, you can contact the organization offering the certification. For the Nurse.com course, you can call the Continuing Education department at 800-866-0919. For other courses, you would have to contact the entity (school, board of nursing, employer) that requires it.
Best wishes,
Donna
