Question:

Dear Donna,

Do you know of any MSN nurse practitioner schools that will admit an older nurse?

Older Nurse

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Older Nurse,

I don't know of any MSN NP programs that consider an applicant’s age when making an acceptance decision. And because most of today’s nursing workforce is "older," they wouldn't have many students if they did.

Research and apply to any schools in which you are interested. Start doing some informational interviewing (www.Nurse.com/Cardillo/Interviewing) with other NPs. Find them through related professional associations such as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (www.AANP.org). Even attend local chapter meetings as a guest for now. When there's something you want to do, it makes sense to rub elbows with those already doing that thing.

Onward and upward!
Donna
