Dear Donna,

I have spoken with you and met you in person at the career alternatives event in Boston. I just want to say how much I enjoyed the event and had no idea you would provide so much information. You went above and beyond when you dealt with the emotions and the confidence issues nurses encounter, when we are looking for nursing career alternatives. Because I didn't enjoy my hospital experience, I felt cheated and thought I was the only one. Your seminar was an eye opener — I am not the only one dealing with dissatisfaction in the hospital setting. Being in the room with other nurses looking for options made me feel normal. Also, I appreciate how sympathetic you were to how we, as nurses, feel when things are not clicking. You set up a good foundation with your workbook and your ultimate career guide, which answered so many questions. You eased my anxiety and made me feel more confident about the next steps to take, such as getting business cards.

I never expected to get a contact number for you either. I was thrilled to call and actually get through to you — thank you for speaking with me. Sometimes I need a little motivation and am grateful for the information you shared. Also, I liked the workbook with the information on how to answer tough interview questions. I was delighted with your class and encourage anyone who needs to see the light at the end of the tunnel to go to your seminar. It is good to know there are options, when being a hospital nurse just doesn’t seem to fit. I am a school nurse and this seems to suit me better than the hospital ever did.

Seminar Attendee

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Seminar Attendee,

Thank you so much for your lovely note and for taking the time to write. I am so happy that you received what you needed to make a successful job transition — and more — at the Career Alternatives for Nurses seminar. Most nurses aren't aware of the vast opportunities available, the dramatic changes that have occurred in some long-standing specialties like school nursing, or how to find those jobs — especially in a changing and competitive job market. I'm so happy for you.
