Question:
Dear Donna,
I am a new grad working as a flu vaccination nurse. I have standing orders and epinephrine in case of an anaphylaxis reaction. If the corporate agency I work for is out of state, am I able to vaccinate and use the standing orders of an out-of-state physician?

Dear Donna replies:
Dear Alex,
For your question I consulted Nancy Brent, RN, JD. As Nancy explains, the answer to your question depends on several variables. See her response here at http://News.Nurse.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012121031001.
To find a nurse attorney in your area, ask around, get a referral from your state chapter of the American Nurses Association (www.nursingworld.org, whether or not you are a member) or get a referral through The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (www.taana.org).
Best wishes,
Donna
