Question:

Dear Donna,

I am responsible for the quality assurance program at our freestanding endoscopy center. What resources are available to me for my changing role with the addition of electronic health records?

QA Nurse

Dear Donna replies:

Dear QA Nurse,

Without knowing what specifically you are looking for as far as information and support with related to electronic health records, I would suggest you connect with the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (www.hcpro.com/acdis), the National Association of Healthcare Quality (www.nahq.org), and the American Health Information Management Association (formerly the Medical Records Association, www.ahima.org/). See what each has to offer and connect with a local chapter. All of these organizations offer education, support and resources.

Since you work in an ambulatory care setting, connect with the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses (www.aaacn.org) for additional help and support.

Best wishes,
Donna
