Dear Donna,

I have a Florida nursing license and am seeking employment. Can you tell me how many CEUs are required per year and when they must be obtained?

Florida Nurse

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Florida Nurse,

You can find the Florida CE regulations at http://ce.nurse.com/state-nurse-ce-requirements/florida. It states: "All Florida-licensed RNs are now in a 24-month renewal cycle and must complete 24 hours of appropriate continuing education during each renewal period. One contact hour is required for each calendar month of the licensure cycle, including two hours on prevention of medical errors. HIV/AIDS is now a one-time, one-hour CE requirement to be completed prior to the first renewal. Domestic violence CE is now a two-hour requirement every third renewal."

That means you need to get 24 CE contact hours any time within your two-year licensure period in order to renew. As stated above, certain courses and subjects must be covered. Fortunately, you can take all of your state-required CE at Nurse.com. Scroll down on the above referenced page for more details.

Other CE requirements by state can be found here: http://ce.nurse.com/RStateReqmnt.aspx.

Best wishes,
