Question:

Dear Donna,

I am planning to move to North Carolina in May. I want to start filling out applications and cover letters stating that I will be there April 15-19, and available for interviews. How soon should I send out letters seeking employment?

Wants to Make a Good Impression

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Wants to Make a Good Impression,

The time to start applying and setting up interviews is now. Employers don't necessarily respond immediately to applications, so you need some lead time.

Don't just rely on online applications. Use the social media outlet LinkedIn to locate recruiters and managers in facilities you might want to work at. If you don't have a LinkedIn profile set up yet, do so now. More and more employers are checking candidates' online profiles when considering interviewing and hiring.

Best wishes,
Donna
