Question:

Dear Donna,

Is there a resume writing company you can recommend?

Needs A Resume

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Needs A Resume,

While many nurses dread the process of creating a professional resume, no one will ever create a better resume than you will once you learn how to do it properly.

The problem with many resume writing services is that they often are not aware of the diverse skill set a nurse has and are not familiar with the nursing job market. They produce something that looks like a canned, rather low-level job description. Resume writing standards have changed over the years and many services are not using current formats so they create something that is out of date and ineffective.

I would encourage you to use “The ULTIMATE Career Guide for Nurses” (www.nurse.com/ce/7250) for sample forms and step-by-step instructions on how to produce a dynamite resume; one that will represent you well on paper and position you in your best light. In the book, you'll find action verbs, phrases and whole sentences that you can adapt to your particular background. There are also sample cover letters, thank you letters and advice for thriving at every stage of your career. Empower yourself and power up your career by learning to create your own professional resume.

Best wishes,

Donna
