Dear Nancy,
Is it OK or harmful for a nine-month-old baby to have eaten some poppy seed muffin?

Dear Nancy replies:

Dear Alicia,

This question is really not one that can be responded to in this column. Your question needs to be directed to a pediatrician who can advise you of any advantages or disadvantages of a nine month old eating anything with poppy seeds on it
or in it.

You can do some initial research to gain some background information on this issue by placing something in your search bar like: "Babies and poppy seeds" or "Effects of poppy seeds on babies.” You will find various positions about whether they should be eaten by a child of nine months old, but your best, solid advice is to check with a pediatrician as soon as possible.
