Dear Donna,
How can I pursue a BScN when I already have an undergraduate degree in anatomy and cell biology? A lot of universities aren't accepting people who already have a degree in a similar program, in this case, health-related. My GPA isn't the best, but I really want to become a nurse.

Wants to Get a BScN

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Wants to Get a BScN,

If you live in the U.S., there are many second-degree or accelerated BSN programs for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree in another major, especially a science degree. Do an Internet search for these types of programs or contact your state board of nursing (https://www.ncsbn.org/contactbon.htm) or state chapter of the American Nurses Association
(http://nursingworld.org/FunctionalMenuCategories/findyourstate) for a list of accredited schools in your state, including the schools with programs as mentioned above.

The reason I question whether you are in the U.S. is that you refer to the degree as a BScN, a designation usually used in Canada or other countries rather than the BSN designation used in the U.S. If you're not in the U.S., contact your state/province/country nursing authority for information about special programs for those who already have a degree in another major.

Best wishes,
