A statewide grantmaking program, New Jersey Health Initiatives 2009, created by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will support projects that improve the health literacy and health outcomes of immigrants in N.J. Funding will support collaborative partnerships between culturally competent community-based organizations or other service providers and established health service providers.

The application deadline for organizations is January 15, 2009. They must be either nonprofit, such as a unit or department of government, or a school board. Projects will be selected based on a diverse group of grantees demographically, by population, and by type of provider.

Up to 10 N.J. projects will receive grants in 2009. Grants of up to $250,000 each over a three-year period will be made, beginning July 1, 2009 and ending June 30, 2012.
