Question:

Dear Donna,

My daughter will be graduating from a BSN program in three weeks. She will be moving to Minneapolis, MN, as her husband is an airline pilot and based out of Minneapolis. She has applied at all of the hospitals there and has not received one call for an interview. Do you have any idea what is going on there? Is there a hiring freeze or something? Any advice I can give her? I am an RN myself and just cannot understand why she isn’t getting calls. Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.

Joyce

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Joyce,

In some parts of the country, hospitals are not hiring new graduates right now or are hiring a limited number of them. Read the article “New Nurse, New Job Strategies” at http://www.dcardillo.com/articles/newnurse.html.

I recommend that she read my books Your First Year as a Nurse and The ULTIMATE Career Guide for Nurses to give her a competitive edge in job finding and getting started in nursing.

My best wishes to you both,
Donna
