Study Says High Altitudes Benefit Dialysis Patients
Thursday March 19, 2009
Researchers from Boston have reported that dialysis patients living at high altitudes survive severe kidney disease better than patients at lower elevations. According to the study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, patients living at elevations of 4,000 to 6,000 feet have a 12% better survival rate after five years, while those above 6,000 feet have a 15% better rate.
Researches studied more than 800,000 dialysis patients by using ZIP codes to figure out at what elevations they lived.
