Ingram’s Magazine named Janie Schumaker, RN, BSN, MBA, CEN, CPHQ, a 2009 Hero in Healthcare. A profile and photograph of Schumaker, director of Providence Emergency Services in Leavenworth, Kan., was included in the February edition of the magazine.

A native of Wyandotte County, Schumaker has many professional accomplishments, such as establishing a program to encourage staff to pursue board certification; being instrumental in building a new emergency services department; and helping to implement a new electronic medical records system.

Schumaker has more than 20 years of nursing experience, dating back to her first job as a certified nursing assistant at a long-term care facility. She has steadily advanced both her educational and career goals and recently received her master’s degree from the University of Saint Mary.

In addition to Schumaker, Providence and Saint John nominated the following nurses: Patty Ingraham, RN, CCRN; Carol Stewart, RN, BSN; Linda Seba, RN; Missy Barlow, RN; and Trudy Byrd, CNA.
