St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, Ill., graduated 16 new RNs from the Versant RN Residency Program. The hospital, a 506-bed acute care medical facility, adopted the program to combat the acute Illinois nursing shortage. St. Elizabeth’s Versant RN Residency is an 18-week program for nurses who recently graduated nursing school or are re-entering the workforce.

“Since implementing the Versant RN Residency in 2006, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital has reduced the turnover of new registered nurses in the first year of employment by 36%,” Donna Meyers, program manager, said in a news release. “The residency program ensures the hospital’s clinical standards and best practices are taught and mastered, therefore, enabling us to retain quality, dedicated nurses and minimize turnover.”
