Mayor Helps Inova Health System Celebrate Nurses

At Inova Alexandria Hospital, Mayor William Euille of Alexandria, Va., issued a proclamation declaring May 7 the city’s Nurses Day.
Euille urged Alexandria residents to “show appreciation for our nurses in this community ... at every opportunity throughout the year.”
Inova Alexandria also marked Nurses Week with a historical display on the legacy of the former Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing (now the current hospital).
Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., celebrated with a nursing excellence award ceremony, “Blessing of the Hands” ceremonies and an Atrium Fun Fair, which included an appearance by former Inova Fairfax nurse Mary Brown, who served at the hospital for 23 years, beginning in 1961. She is best known for delivering the hospital’s first baby on her first day of work five hours after the new obstetrics unit opened.
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria had a recognition breakfast for certified RNs and a pain-management presentation.
Inova Loudon Hospital in Leesburg celebrated with a brunch for past, present, and future nurses, a luncheon for certified nurses, and a Nightingale Walk for charity.
Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax marked the occasion with a Magnet pinning reception in honor of the hospital’s recent Magnet designation.
