U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., visited April 13 with nurses at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del., to discuss the $476,000 in federal omnibus funding that is designated for the expansion of the Beebe School of Nursing.

Emergency department nurses Kim Moore, RN, and George Austin, RN, shared their experiences as graduates of the Beebe School of Nursing — one of the nation’s few hospital-based diploma nursing schools — with Carper.

Moore said she appreciated “the hands-on experience I was able to get in the hospital” as a student. Austin said he was able to work as a tech while attending school and also take part in a summer extern program.
