Abington Memorial Nurse Joins N.J. DMAT Team
Cathleen A. Evans, RN, MSN, CEN, CNE, nursing instructor, Abington (Pa.) Memorial Hospital, has joined the New Jersey-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team as a staff nurse. The NJ-1 DMAT team provides disaster medical care around the country and in U.S. territories when local healthcare infrastructure is overcome by a disaster event.

Terry Reilly, RN, MSN, nurse director of critical care services, and Jean Harpel, RN, BS, vascular nurse specialist, presented “Transforming Traditional Care Delivery to Promote Professional Development and Improve Patient Care” at the 2009 American Organization of Nurse Executives national conference in San Antonio.

Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover, Del.
Kim Scott, RN, was named the Northern Division Employee of the Year May 13 at an employee service awards banquet.

Scott is a 26-year Bayhealth employee who is a nursing informatics analyst at Kent General Hospital.

Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, N.J.
Elizabeth “Bissie” Cianfrani, RN, BSN, MBA, CASC, administrative director of surgical services, has been awarded the hospital’s prestigious Leadership Profile Award for her efforts in elevating clinical practices and her role in planning for the new surgical pavilion.

Donna Bingenheimer, RN, educational specialist, has been honored as the April Employee of the Month.

Kathy Winslow, RN, was named the March Employee of the Month.




Mickey Mullin, RN

Cooper University Hospital, Camden, N.J.
Dino Ripa, RN, BSN, a staff nurse in the cardiac catheterization lab, was honored as the 2009 Nurse of the Year. Ripa also won the Theodore Hirsch Memorial Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Nursing at Cooper, which recognized 16 nurses with awards during National Nurses Week.

Awards also went to RNs Regina Chavous-Gibson (Charlotte E. Tobiason Memorial Award), Tracy Reynolds (Sara Hirsch Memorial Award for Excellence in Oncology Nursing Practice), Lucy Suokhrie (Research Nurse Excellence Award), Mary Jo Cimino (Ruby Gross Leadership Award in Nurse Excellence), Janine Mary Rouseau (Ronald Bernardin Memorial Award), Kathleen Sailor (Moorestown Auxiliary Memorial Award for Excellence in Outpatient Nursing), James Reeve (Theodore and Sara Hirsch Memorial Award), Lois Meyer (Jean Patterson Award), Julie A. Gillis (John Henry Kronenberger Memorial Award), Elizabeth Haviland (Excellence in Trauma Nursing Award), Barbara Wenning (Clinical Nurse Excellence Award), Mary Perocho (Carol G. Tracey Compassion Award), Mary Thomas (Moorestown Auxiliary Memorial Award for Excellence in Geriatric Nursing), Deborah Cutrona (Excellence in Perioperative Nursing Award), and Pamela Hunt (Award for Excellence in Perioperative Surgical Technology).

Nancy G. Hesse, RN, has been named chief nursing officer, effective June 1. Hesse has more than 29 years of nursing leadership experience.

University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia
Connie M. Ulrich, RN, PhD, assistant professor of bioethics and nursing, has been invited by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute at NIH to serve as the bioethicist for the NHLBI Data and Safety Monitoring Board for the Catheter Ablation vs. Antiarrhythmic Drug Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation Trial.

Kathleen M. McCauley, ACNS-BC, FAAN, FAHA, has been promoted to professor of cardiovascular nursing-clinician educator.

Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia
Mickey Mullin, RN, MSN, OCN, CHCR, graduated March 21 with a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions. Mullin, a member of Nursing Spectrum’s Regional Advisory Board, earned her MSN with a concentration in nursing leadership in health systems management.

Mullin said both of her clinical preceptors, Robyn Begley, RN, MSN, and Gloria Donnelly, RN, PhD, FAAN, also are Nursing Spectrum board members.

Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, Del.
Cathleen Rossi-McLaughlin, RN, MS, senior director of nursing, was a panel member during a discussion titled “Growing Pediatric Nurse Leaders” at the 19th annual convention of the Society of Pediatric Nurses.

Judith Herrman, RN, PhD, part-time nurse educator, offered a pre-convention session titled “What Difference Does a Policy Make? Due Process for All Children.” Pediatric intensive care nurses Ruthann DeJuliis, RN, BSN, and Shereen Sophy, RN, CCRN, provided the podium presentation, “S.T.A.R.T. Talking! Ways to Promote Communication of Essential Patient Information in a Concise Format” at the convention.

Dyane Bunnell, RN-BC, MSN, COPN, clinical nurse educator and chair emeritus of nursing shared governance, and Mary Newman, RN, CPON, nurse manager, blood and bone marrow transplant unit and heme/onc clinic, and chair of nursing shared governance, presented the poster “Evaluations of Nursing Shared Governance Implementation in a Pediatric Hospital.”

The Chester County Hospital, West Chester, Pa.
In March, the hospital recognized 125 of its nurses who are certified in their specialties. About 20% of the nurses on staff are certified.

St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa.
Lynn Mosby, RN, CPHM, received a Crystal Award from the Omega Delta Upsilon Society for being the co-founder and executive director of Duluti Initiative Inc., a nonprofit organization that raises funds to provide healthcare access to villagers in Tanzania.

Beverly Walsh, RN, ONC, was honored with a Courage, Commitment, and Compassion Award from the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association and the Nursing Foundation.

Jeanes Hospital, Philadelphia
RNs Danielle Meinel (certified bariatric nurse), Lois Chappell (certified emergency nurse), Deborah Gorman and Sherly Sebastian (certified operating room nurses), and Teresa Yankanich (certified critical care nurse) all earned certifications.

Mercy Suburban Hospital, East Norriton, Pa.
Karen Buck, RN, was honored May 7 as the 2009 Nursing Excellence Award winner at Gwynedd-Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, Pa.

Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del.
RNs Suzanne Vazzano, Janie Wells, and Elizabeth Wilson have earned their oncology nursing certifications.
