Question:
Dear Donna,
I have had 20 plus years of clinical, management and business experience, and I’m thinking I would like to transition to part-time work in case management. Five months in Missouri and six months in Florida would be ideal. I’m willing to buy my time to learn the job and get the credentials I need to be successful. Any thoughts on where to start? Thank you for any assistance you can provide, and have a great day!

Donna replies:
Dear Diane,
Case management might be just the right thing for you because many jobs can be done from home using a phone and computer. Therefore, it really doesn’t matter where you live. These positions are usually available through private case management companies and some insurance companies. Find these companies by doing an Internet search for “Medical case management company” or “case management company.” Make direct contact with these companies. I also recommend that you attend, as a guest, a local chapter meeting of the Case Management Society of America (www.cmsa.org). Do some informational interviewing (http://www.dcardillo.com/articles/thescoop.html) with chapter officers and members. Networking is well-known to be a great way to find and get great jobs. Good luck!
