Young and other nurses were profiled in the magazine’s May issue and were judged on their impact on patient care, demonstrated excellence, commitment to the community, and achievement of lifelong professionalism.
“The clinical nurse specialist role at Phelps allows me to impact nurses, patients, families, and other healthcare workers in a role I love,” Young said in a news release.
Young also received the highest annual nursing award given out at Phelps, the 2009 Nurse of Distinction Award. In a nominating letter, clinical nurse specialist Cheryl Burke wrote, “Carolynn serves as a role model for the attitude needed for today’s professional nurse as well as the ‘culture of kindness’ at Phelps. She is a nursing leader who always keeps in mind the nurses and their busy roles. She assists them in challenging situations and is always educating.”
