Charleen Tachibana, RN, senior vice president, hospital administrator, and chief nursing officer at Virginia Mason Medical Center, has been named one of 20 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellows for 2009. She is the only nurse in Washington state to be selected. The national fellowship program focuses on expanding the role of nurses to lead change in the U.S. healthcare system. The three-year fellowship program provides extensive leadership development for nurses in executive roles in public or community health, science and research, corporate health, academia, government or military health service. Fellows remain in their current positions while they receive additional training, mentoring and the opportunity to implement innovative healthcare strategies.
