Students participated in activities ranging from nursing and rehabilitation to respiratory therapy and pharmacy practice. The program also provided students with hands-on experience in the medical field that included the opportunity to perform surgery on a chicken breast, learn CPR, and observe samples under a microscope in the lab.
As an added bonus, college recruiters were present to discuss future education and career paths, give students tips on applying for college, and provide information on specific courses.
Thirty students from 16 area schools participated in the camp, which has increased in popularity. Enrollment for this year’s program was up 66% from 2008 and funding tripled to $18,000 from $6,000 last year.
