The Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point’s (Hudson) Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Team presented a program for the Annual Vascular Access Conference in September in Las Vegas. More than 1,200 people, including nurses and physicians from all over the world, attended the conference.

Team leader Susan Schillace, RN, presented a program that defined process changes, technology, insertion technique, and supplies/materials that effectively reduced blood stream infections for peripherally inserted central lines from a rate of 3.4 (2007) to at or below 0.05 per 1,000 catheter days in 2008-09.

The PICC Team started at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in March of 2006. PICC team members include RNs Janet Draughon, Barbara Warren, and Timothy Creamer.
