Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., recently opened a new patient tower that includes structural and decorative elements designed to improve the patient experience and promote provider efficiency, according to a news release.

The $27 million, three-story addition includes an on-site occupational therapy center, an outpatient infusion area where patients can receive blood transfusions and other short-term treatments, and a patient and family resource center.

The tower also houses 48 private patient rooms, each about 60 square feet larger than the double-occupancy rooms in the hospital’s former inpatient department. The additional space is expected to promote patient interaction with family members, as well as help staff members deliver care more easily and efficiently.

To further improve staff efficiency, the new tower includes a network of decentralized nursing stations. Other amenities include an outside courtyard and a series of quiet, family-friendly lounges.
