After a multiyear application and planning process, excavation for Swedish Medical Center’s new hospital in Issaquah, Wash., started Aug. 18. An official groundbreaking ceremony was in October.
The new campus will be developed in two phases. The first phase is the opening of a medical-office building and outpatient center in summer 2011. The hospital — Phase 2 — is slated to open in early 2012. It will provide a broad range of inpatient and outpatient medical services including oncology, cardiac care, obstetrics, pediatrics, emergency services, primary care, intensive care, and a host of other medical and surgical services and specialists.
By its fourth year of operation, the new hospital will account for about 300 new full-time jobs in the area, according to a news release by Swedish. At completion, the hospital will employ an estimated 600 people and serve tens of thousands of patients each year.
