Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has a new “spot” for families dealing with the daily monumental tasks of encouraging children to eat fruits and vegetables and make healthy choices. MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a free, child-friendly resource that offers solutions to parents and children seeking to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles.

“While most wellness sites separately focus on either adults or children, MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a resource for the whole family,” Lucy Klausner, executive director, Child Health Promotion at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, said in a news release. “Research has shown that family participation is noted to be one of the most effective ways to incorporate a healthy lifestyle for children and young adults.”

In addition to sharing a wealth of knowledge from child health experts at Children’s, the Web site also offers online health-tracking tools.

With these personalized wellness tools, families can track exercise, food, and body mass index. Parents also can keep tabs on their children’s nutrition and activity levels, as well as motivate them to make healthy choices through interactive games, reward points and fitness.

In other news, the Atlanta Business Chronicle, named Children’s to its list of “Atlanta’s Best Places to Work,” according to a news release. Children’s ranked No. 8 on the 2009 list of Atlanta’s best places to work for large companies and is the only Atlanta hospital on the list. This is the seventh year in a row the publication has listed Children’s among the best employers in Atlanta.
