Question:

Dear Donna,

I have the opportunity to either take a position in oncology and complete my chemo certification or take a position in cardiology and become proficient at cardiac care (with some exposure to stepdown CCU). Which position is the most marketable for my career?

Sue

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Sue,

One position is not better or more marketable than the other. In fact, both are great. You have to follow your heart and go with the one that is most interesting and exciting to you. If you're still not sure, do some informational interviewing (www.dcardillo.com/articles/thescoop.html) with nurses working in both specialties. Once you've gathered all the relevant information, make a decision and go with it. Read “To Act or Not - The Decision is Yours” at www.dcardillo.com/articles/toactornot.html.

My best wishes,
Donna
