For the second year in a row, Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital received the NewYork-Presbyterian Quality Symposium Award. The award recognizes an organization’s commitment to quality innovation in patient care.

Winners are selected from a large number of entries evaluated by a panel of judges from NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, Healthcare Association of New York State, the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians, and the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association.

Nyack hospital’s submission, “Change in Triage Process Using Lean Methodology,” described the use of Lean tools to significantly reduce wait times and improve patient satisfaction in the ED. By deviating from the traditional triage model, and utilizing Lean Six Sigma, the hospital implemented a bedside triage model that successfully improved patient quality, safety, and satisfaction.
