At CCA, nurses provide a range of direct-care services to inmates. They help manage existing conditions, provide wellness-related education and sometimes play a key role in identifying new diagnoses, according to a news release from CCA. CCA nurses also work with dental and mental health professionals.
CCA introduced its company-sponsored ACA professional certification program to other divisions of employees last year.
Participants study independently through company-provided ACA materials and then take a timed, proctored exam. With a score of 75 or better, they earn a certification that remains in effect for three years.
CCA is the nation’s largest owner and operator of government-contracted correctional and detention facilities, operating 65 facilities, including 44 company-owned facilities, with approximately 87,000 beds in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
