Construction of the $400 million replacement Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Ill., is nearly 40% complete and remains on schedule to open in February 2012.

“Even with the recession troubling the nation, this is an exciting time for healthcare in Will County,” Paul Pawlak, president/CEO of Silver Cross, said in a news release. “The new hospital is bringing more jobs, as well as continuing quality healthcare to the region.”

The new hospital, which will be located at I-355 and Route 6, will feature 289 beds and an evidence-based design with large, private patient rooms, natural and enhanced lighting, and sound and noise control.

“Several design elements are associated with better quality outcomes and higher patient satisfaction,” said Peggy Gricus, vice president of patient care. “For example, reducing hospital noise can improve patient recovery and sleep time and reduce depression.”

In October 2009, the Silver Cross Center for Women’s Health opened on the replacement hospital campus in New Lenox in a new medical services building.

A second medical services building is scheduled to open early next year and will offer hospital outpatient services and additional physician offices.

Last summer, Silver Cross also opened a free-standing emergency center in nearby Homer Glen, Ill., that is open 24 hours, seven days a week. ED wait times for Silver Cross and the Homer Glen facilities are listed online at www.SilverCross.org.
