Johns Hopkins nurse wins Health Care Heroes honor

Laurie Bryant, RN, The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, was named The Daily Record Health Care Heroes top winner in the Nurse category during a spring recognition event.

Bryant was among nearly two dozen nurses who were recognized.

The program was created in 2003 by The Daily Record, a Maryland business publication, to honor healthcare professionals who impact the lives of residents in the state.

Other RN finalists in the Nurse category were Donna Audia, University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine; Marlon Caballero, The Johns Hopkins Hospital; Henry Cason, Stella Maris; Barbara Friend, College of Notre Dame of Maryland; Tamika Gladney, Northwest Hospital; Susan Groman, Howard County General Hospital; Trisha Kendall, University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center; Catherine Miller, Howard County General Hospital; and Charyl (Sam) Ricketts, Chester River Home Health and Hospice.

RNs who were finalists in other categories included Barbara Geyer and Margie Wertz of Kaiser Permanente and Melva Jones of The Johns Hopkins Hospital (Community Outreach); Charlotte Eliopoulos of The Wellspring Program and Donna Lewis of Greater Baltimore Medical Center (Health Care Professional); and Abby Dentry, Kathy Ruane and Barbara Tassone of GBMC, Bill Gough of St. Joseph Medical Center and Jeanne Markowski of Franklin Square Hospital Center (Mid-Level Practitioner).
