The Oregon Center for Nursing in Portland has announced the launch of its new podcast series "Oregon NurseCast."

The series aims to educate nurses about innovative practices, provide tools to facilitate their professional practice and encourage conversation among professionals related to nursing in Oregon.

On the first podcast, Paula Gubrud, RN, EdD, chairwoman of the Oregon Nursing Leadership Collaborative, discussed Oregon’s efforts to address the Institute of Medicine recommendations in the 2010 report "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health."

"I’m really proud of Oregon," Gubrud said. "Oregon is cited as an exemplar of several of the recommendations."

Since the report was released, she said, the collaborative has created several subgroups. One group, in particular, is working to answer questions about where Oregon stands regarding leadership. "What do we need to do throughout the state to ensure that nurses have access to developing the leadership skills needed to ... participate at the table where healthcare reform policy is being created?"

The free, 30-minute-average podcasts are available on OCN’s website, www.OregonCenterforNursing.org.
