Question:
Dear Donna,
I live in New Jersey and participated in the “Career Alternatives for Nurses” seminar in October in New York. I would appreciate some information about arranging a cruise for addiction workers — nurses, social workers and counselors. There is great need for education for CEUs in the field and also, it would be a way to develop relationships and learn and use relaxation techniques.

Dear Donna replies:
Dear Cruise-bound,
Sounds like a plan. Contact any cruise line and speak to the group sales representative. They will give you information about arranging such a cruise. Since you live in New Jersey, there are many cruises that leave from the Port of Bayonne, such as my recent cruise to Bermuda. You can contact a travel agent to help with this.
To obtain CEUs for the event, contact the NJ State Nurses Association (www.njsna.org, whether or not you are a member) for information about applying for contact hours for nurses. For the social workers and others, you would need to contact the related association or agency that requires and issues CEUs for these professionals.
Because you would need to market this event, give yourself at least six months lead-time (if not more) to get the word out. Professionals need time to arrange their schedules, request time off, save money or request reimbursement, etc.
Happy sailing,
Donna
