More than 90 public health nurses representing local health departments throughout New Jersey participated in the eighth annual New Jersey Public Health Nurse Summit on June 8 at the Middlesex Fire Academy in Sayreville, N.J.
The theme of this year’s summit — "Public Health Nurse Count Me In" — emphasized the critical role public health nurses play in protecting the health of New Jersey populations through enhanced practice of the public health core competencies, which are pertinent to their field.
"The New Jersey Association of Public Health Nurse Administrators is the organized voice of public health nursing in New Jersey, and we are working hard to make public health nursing a recognized and respected profession," said Marilynn Bernstein, RN, MSN, president of the organization. "We encourage all public health nurses to join NJAPHNA and be counted in so their ideas and opinions will be a part of the future of public health nursing."
The summit was a collaborative effort of the NJAPHNA, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and the New Jersey Public Health Training Center.
