Nicole Riverso, RN, BSN, a staff nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia, was honored as a DAISY Award winner for her genuine selflessness and compassion on behalf of Jeffersonís oncology patients, according to a news release. The award was presented to her on June 25.

Two of Riversoís nursing colleagues nominated her for the award. One, another staff nurse, wrote that Riverso and nurse practitioner Mia Burgess, APRN, MSN, AOCNP, spearheaded the Helping Hands Fund, a program established to raise money for patients to offset the financial burden associated with hospitalization. Riverso organized the fundraiser — sold tickets, found a hall, hired a DJ, had people make baskets to auction, advertised the event and decorated.
