Insoon Choi, RN, was a good friend, co-worker, classmate, nurse and mother. We met the year we became staff nurses at White Memorial Medical Center, where I have worked for more than 30 years.
In 1999, I went back to college to finish my baccalaureate degree in nursing. To my surprise, Choi was sitting in the back of the class. She said she was excited because she had prayed for help. I chuckled and told her there was more help to come — Supreeda Dispun, RN, and Patuman Danpongjarean, RN. God had sent her three friends.
In 2007, Danpongjarean was diagnosed with stomach cancer. It was a short event that took her life. In March 2011, a tumor was found in Choi’s brain.
To honor these ladies, I decided not to cut my hair the day we lost Choi. It took me one year and four months to grow enough inches to donate to Locks of Love. This hair is in dedication to Choi and Danpongjarean; they live on through my hair strands.
