Question:
Dear Donna,
I am an active LPN in Georgia, but I recently moved to Florida. Because I am caring for an ailing parent, I have not been working. I can't afford the endorsement fees in Florida but need to go back to work at least part-time. I am unsure what type of positions I would be qualified for. What kind of job should I try to find?

Dear Donna replies:
Dear Going Broke,
Although the endorsement fee is $218, it might be worth the investment by increasing your employment opportunities and salary. But if you opt not to take that route, it would make sense for you to look for a patient care tech or nurses aide position if you want to work in the direct patient care realm. Make direct contact with any healthcare facilities, including hospitals, assisted living facilities, and subacute, rehab, long-term care and hospice settings.
Also contact some home care, hospice and nursing staffing agencies in the area for additional opportunities. Some schools systems use health aides to administer medication and take care of minor ailments.
Best wishes,
Donna
