The Inova Governance Board has approved an addition to the ED at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Va., according to a news release. The new facility will be about 21,000 square feet with 30 treatment bays that include two resuscitation rooms and four negative pressure rooms. There also will be five fast track bays, CT and digital X-ray facilities and a modern HVAC system.
"This is an exciting announcement for the Mount Vernon community, because it represents the creation of an emergency department that fully meets the needs of this growing community – not only today, but also into the future," Inova CEO Knox Singleton said in the release. "Our hospital staff and physicians are delighted with the board’s approval of this addition."
Construction for the ED addition is set for 2014, the release said. After certain components of the existing ED are moved into the new space, the project will free up 10,000 square feet of space for development of other clinical programs and services.
