As professor emeritus at the UCLA School of Nursing, I will be leading a trip for nurses and other volunteers from March to April in Tanzania and Kenya. We will visit a hospital, other healthcare settings and a school of nursing while building friendships with African colleagues. Other experiences will include visiting villages, meeting the locals who live there and learning what their lives are like.

Attendees will learn about changes to the environment, threats to animals and ways Africans are expanding entrepreneurial opportunities. There also will be time to enjoy Africa’s most beautiful and culturally diverse regions, and take part in a safari extension in one of the world’s most famous national parks. Volunteers can participate in all or part of the trip. CEUs will be provided through UCLA.

Dates and costs include: Tanzania, March 23-30, $2,600 per person; safari in Serengeti National Park, March 30-April 2, $1,300; Kenya, April 2-9, $2,500; and safari in Maasai Mara National Reserve, April 9-12, $1,300. Prices include all costs except airfare to and from Africa, which will be about $1,700 to $1,800, and visas, insurance, drinks, personal items and souvenirs. For information, contact me at 951-805-3705 (cell), 951-769-3705 (home) or by email at dmcneese@ucla.edu.
