The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has named Paula Agosto, RN, MHA, to the position of senior vice president and CNO.

As the senior vice president and CNO, Agosto is responsible for advancing nursing and respiratory practice and leading nursing research while supporting the hospital’s commitment to exceptional patient care.

"Paula brings a wealth of experience and insight to the executive team, having started her career at Children’s Hospital 28 years ago as a staff nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit," Madeline Bell, president and COO, said in a news release. "Her willingness to take on new leadership challenges and the success of her teams in achieving results under her leadership have won her the respect and support of her colleagues and prepared her for this key organizational role."

Agosto started her career at CHOP as a staff nurse in the PICU in 1985. Beginning in 1996, she has assumed responsible leadership roles, such as nurse manager of the PICU; director of critical care, transport and emergency nursing; and assistant vice president of critical care, respiratory and neurodiagnostic services. In addition to her nursing leadership, Agosto has led a number of successful cross-organizational improvement and operating plan initiatives.

Agosto is active in the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. She has written for numerous pediatric textbooks and manuals and has given presentations on pediatric nursing topics around the nation.
